Place all vegetables in a large bowl and gently mix. Add the olives. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and wine vinegar, then season lightly with salt and black pepper. FAQ Greek Salad

Which Tomatoes for Greek Salad?

Always choose tomatoes with strong flavor. Vine-ripened tomatoes or plum tomatoes work best. Avoid watery tomatoes, as they weaken the natural juices and overall taste of the salad.

Which Olives for Greek Salad?

The authentic choice is big Greek olives, ideally with pits. They add depth, saltiness, and a slightly fruity note that defines a traditional Greek salad.

Can Greek salad have lettuce?

No. In traditional Greek cuisine, lettuce is never used. If lettuce is added, it becomes an international variation, not an authentic Greek salad without lettuce.

Greek Salad for Gyros

Greek salad is a classic side dish for gyros. The acidity from the vinegar and the freshness of the vegetables perfectly balance the rich meat. This pairing is commonly known as Greek salad for gyros.

Greek Salad with Chicken

The original recipe is made without chicken, but you can adapt it to your taste. Adding grilled chicken breast makes it more filling and turns it into a modern Greek salad with chicken. This is optional and not part of the traditional recipe.

Greek Salad to Go

For Greek salad to go, keep the feta separate and add olive oil and vinegar just before eating. This helps maintain texture and prevents excess liquid from forming.
